Membership Engagement Manager - Scottsdale AZ Congregation
Location: Scottsdale, AZ 85260
Membership Engagement Manager Overview: The Membership Engagement Manager at Congregation Or Tzion (COT) will be a key member of the synagogue leadership team, partnering closely and working collaboratively with COT professional staff, lay leadership, and volunteers to engage over 550 membership units. Key responsibilities include: guiding the membership process for current, new and prospective members, working with synagogue committees and groups, and planning synagogue-wide events.
This is a full-time position that requires evening and weekend responsibilities and will report to and work in collaboration with the Executive Director. Position is grant-funded.

● Loves working with people, creating Jewish community, and cultivating relationships among people at all life stages. ● Possesses strong interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills, understands and appreciates Jewish and synagogue culture, and has donor relations experience.
● Has exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to relate
effectively with clergy, staff, lay leadership, volunteers, and all members of a Jewish
● congregation.
● Is able to manage and prioritize multiple ongoing and developing tasks while following through on short- and long-term responsibilities.
● Can handle confidential and sensitive matters with maturity, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism.
● Is empathic and understanding when interacting with congregants and will help them feel
valued for their ideas, passions, gifts, and skills. ● Is able to reinforce our warm, friendly, and comfortable environment by interacting and communicating well with congregants, staff and others, both in person and via phone
● Thrives in a team environment, but is a self-starter who thinks strategically and can produce and implement detail-oriented plans.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Work collaboratively with clergy, senior staff, and lay leaders to create pathways for current members to make meaningful, lifelong connections with and within the Congregation Or Tzion (COT) community.
● Understand the dynamics of our synagogue community and work with the COT Board of Directors to develop and execute an annual congregant engagement plan.
● Manage COT’s flexible giving membership model, including outreach and reporting as well as major giving stewardship.
● Develop and implement new member initiatives, including onboarding, communications and programming.
● Provide leadership, guidance, motivation, and expertise to COT’s lay leadership, clergy, and staff on programming matters.
● Coordinate and assist volunteers in running synagogue programs scheduled throughout the year. ● Work with the Executive Director to divide responsibility of being present at some Shabbat and holiday services to welcome and greet congregants, and to be available to address membership inquiries. ● Create, process and manage event registration forms. ● Manage communications channels, including emails, flyers, social media and marketing working with lay leadership and professional colleagues.
Experience and Qualifications
● Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant non-profit experience preferred.
● Demonstrated experience in successfully working with individuals and collaboratively in groups.
● Ability to recruit, motivate, and organize volunteers
● Knowledge and understanding of Judaism and Jewish culture, customs, holidays, and familiarity with the needs of a Conservative Jewish congregation.
● Familiar with creating and managing budgets. ● Demonstrated proficiency with contact relationship management systems (e.g., ShalomCloud, ShulCloud), the complete Microsoft Office suite, calendar management systems, Email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, ConstantContact), and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram). ● Proficiency in Canva a plus.
